What a BUDGET Holiday Means

What do I classify as a budget holiday?

I suppose everyone is different on this. When I set up my Instagram page it was mainly to help families like me know it was possible to travel too, you can have a lovely holiday without paying mega money.

A lot of people commented that my holidays were not Budget holidays. But they were to me. They were a nice holiday done as cheap as I could so it fell within MY budget.

I don’t really go into looking for holidays with an exact budget in mind.

But I do love to come away from a booking knowing I’ve found the best value for my money.

How I start planning for a holiday is first to decide where we want to go. Menorca is one of our favourites, we try to go every year. Once we fall in love with somewhere the pull to go back is so strong!

This year alone we’ve done Lapland, Menorca and Holland, (Holland is one of our favourite places)  all the cheapest ways I can find!

So once we know where we want to go I will start looking at every single booking site, and compare prices, then I break it all up individually, I’ll find what’s around, how we will get from A to B, read reviews on everything, check out pictures, see if the location/ accommodation has a group or page on social media.

I know it sounds exhausting and I probably have too much time on my hands but it’s like an obsession 🫣

Sometimes I’ll book accommodation and travel separately. Sometimes I’ll do it together if the price is better.

It can also depend on what day you travel. We once got 10 days in Spain cheaper than 7 because of the day the flight was on 🤷🏼‍♀️

We’ve recently booked our first trip to Orlando(not cheap I know) but I found a better deal after I originally booked, offering me 3 more days for £400 less!! Madness, luckily I had enough time to cancel one and book the other. I will blog about how much this cost and how much we spent and saved when the time comes!

What I’m trying to let people know is it’s ok to shop around, just because it’s more money doesn’t mean it’s a better holiday, surely you want the best holiday for less with more money to buy extras 🙌🏼

Sometimes hiring a car works out cheaper than a transfer or taxi so don’t let driving abroad scare you. We always try to hire a car!

**Eurocamps are a great way of going abroad and they have them in so many countries.

A couple of times a year the sun will also do the £9.50 holidays and include eurocamps. Even better savings!

** Collect Tesco vouchers and exchange them for  Travel/Hotels to save money.

** Download Virgin Red and set up an account. You can earn points every time you buy through the app, I've gained thousands this way. Enough to take me to New York and back so far!

One thing a package holiday does provide is it’s ATOL protected so make sure you have good travel insurance if booking separately.

I have excellent travel insurance with my bank Barclays, as well as travel insurance I get RAC cover and free use of airport lounges. Always a bonus before a holiday!

I hope this manages to help someone. Just look around, don’t stress, it will happen 🙏🏼
